The Central Connecticut softball team hosts the Yale Bulldogs for the first home games of the season today in a double header at the CCSU Softball Field starting at 3 p.m. Last week, the Blue Devils traveled to the USF Under Armour Invitational where they kicked off the 2013 season 2-3.
"Any time you can kick off the season with a couple of wins under your belt, it is a successful start," Head Coach Jeff Franquet said. "We are coming into today's double header with some momentum after our win on Sunday and we are looking forward to a successful season."
During the tournament, senior Nicole Springer belted two, two-run homers to total four RBI on the weekend. She also racked up three runs in the five game stretch.
Freshman Hannah Cooper had an impressive start to her collegiate career as she posted five RBI on six hits including one home run.
Sophomore Kat Malcolm also started out her second season as a Blue Devil strong as she blasted a grand slam on Friday in Central's 8-4 win over Stephen F. Austin.
In the pitcher's circle, sophomore Laura Messina has started out the season accumulating 18 strikeouts and a shutout in her three appearances.
