Dave Maliar begins his seventh season as the Blue Devil diving coach. Each of the past two seasons Maliar has been named Diving Coach of the Year in the Northeast Conference. At the championship meet, he has coached CCSU divers to first and second place finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter events during the last two seasons.
After graduating from CCSU in 2004, Maliar began coaching
Central Connecticut divers to many individual accolades. In 2005,
Juliana DiPlacido won both the one and three-meter events and broke
the NEC record on the three-meter board. Maliar coached her
to the NCAA Diving Regionals, a first for any CCSU
competitor. DiPlacido, who won on both boards as a freshman,
took home the one-meter crown in 2004. In 2006, he guided Kristen
Rossi to a Northeast Conference title on the one-meter board, which
led to her first NEC Diver of the Year award.
Maliar was a four-year member of the Windsor High School swimming
and diving team, which won a pair of conference titles. Maliar was
also a member of the Central men's diving team for two seasons. He
earned a ninth-place finish on the one-meter and a third-place
finish on the three-meter diving boards on the collegiate level at
the 2002 Northeast Conference Men's Swimming Invitational.
The first member of his family to attend college, Maliar was a
Dean's List student while completing a Bachelor's Degree in
communication.
