Central Places 5th at Wildcat Invitational

The Central Connecticut men's golf team placed fifth out of 14 teams after the final round of the Villanova Wildcat Invitational. The Blue Devils finished +58 to par (316/293/301/910), 20 strokes behind tournament champion Ohio State (300/302/288/890). Along with Ohio State, the only teams to finish ahead of Central were Delaware (303/300/298/901), St. John's (306/299/296/901), and host Villanova (313/297/292/902).
Villanova hosted the Second Annual Wildcat Invitational at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, PA. The par-71 course played 7,055 yards long. Rounds one and two took place on Monday, April 2nd and round three wrapped up on Tuesday, April 3rd. The second round of the tournament went unfinished on day one but was completed on day two just before round three.
Senior Kevin Josephson shot a round three 72 and finished the tournament tied for sixth individually (79/74/72/225). The senior made four birdies and 10 par's in the tournament's final round moving himself up the leader board from a 13th place tie after round two. He finished the tournament at 12 strokes over par, 13 strokes off of the leader. This marks Josephson's third top-ten finish of the 2011-12 men's golf season, the most of any Blue Devil.
Junior Dan Fanion placed tied for 12th in the individual standings and +13 to par (80/72/74/226). Fanion opened up his final 18 with four straight par's, made four birdies, and had eight par's total for the round.
Freshman Monte Mullen scored +18 over par which was good for a 27th place finish (76/75/80/231). The freshman saw his best round on Monday shooting a 75 (+4) in the second round. Mullen made birdie four times and made par on 32 holes during the two-day tournament.
Sophomore Daniel Morgan placed tied for 35th (81/72/82/235) and junior Ashley Crawford placed tied for 47th (88/75/75/238). Junior Matthew DeJohn competed as an individual in the tournament. He finished tied for 56th place (80/86/76/242).
Central will return to action on April 6th and 7th at the New England Championships in Newport, RI.
