Women's Cross Country Takes 2nd out of 5 at Ted Owen

The Central Connecticut State University women's cross country team finished second out of five teams at the Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday morning. The Blue Devils were led by junior Katherine Bossardet and senior Alyssa Cole who placed seventh and ninth, respectively. Bossardet finished the five kilometer course at Stanley Quarter Park in a time of 18:40.04, while Cole crossed the line in 18:52.10.

The University of Rhode Island won the team championship as they placed four runners in the top six overall. The Rams finished with a team score of 32, while CCSU scored 69 points for second. Bryant and Providence both scored 78, but the Bulldogs sixth runner finished ahead of PC's so Bryant took third and the Friars finished fourth. AIC rounded out the scoring with 101 to take fifth. Deirdre Doyle of Bryant won the individual championship, finishing the course in a time of 18:11.62.

Other top finishers for CCSU were junior Nicole Coiteux and sophomore Amanda Asaro. Coiteux placed 14th with a time of 19:43.83, while Asaro was 15th and recorded a time of 19:48.74. Freshman Victoria Alvarez rounded out the top five for Central, placing 31st with a time of 21:42.98. The Blue Devils will next compete at the Monmouth Invitational on Saturday October 10.
