Central Connecticut sophomore Eddy Bogle was named adidas/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. Bogle's goal in the first half of Friday's game helped the Blue Devils to a victory and their first NEC Tournament Berth since 2007.
Bogle's fifth goal of the season not only won Central Connecticut's final game of the season, a 2-0 decision over St. Francis (NY), but it also clinched a share of the Northeast Conference regular season title. The Blue Devils last shared the regular season title during the 1998 season.
Bogle sent his Blue Devils to the NEC Tournament and improved their record to 10-8 when his chip evaded the grasp of the Terrier netminder and found its way into the back of the net in the 22nd minute of Friday's contest. In addition to it being his fifth goal of the season, it was also his team-leading fourth game-winner of the season.
The Blue Devils will look to continue their success this weekend in the NEC Tournament. Sacred Heart will host the tournament by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker over Central and Monmouth. Sacred Heart will play Fairleigh Dickinson at 11 a.m. in the first semifinal and the Blue Devils will play Monmouth in the second semifinal at 1:30 p.m.
The tournament will be played at Lessing Field on the campus of Fairfield University. All of the tournament games will be streamed live by the PackNetwork on NortheastConference.tv.
