Women's Golf Picked Sixth in NEC Preseason Poll
The Central Connecticut women's golf team was picked sixth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll. The Blue Devils finished sixth at the NEC Championships last season. Coach Paula Cloud's squad was led by Anna Ausanio and Stephanie Bednar at the championships last year. Fairleigh Dickinson received 10 first place votes in route to being tabbed the favorite this season.
Sophomores this season, Anna Ausanio and Stephanie Bednar will look to climb the conference ranks. Ausanio took 13th at last year's league meet and Bednar finished in 16th place.
Fellow sophomore Katie Reid will look to build off her strong Fall season to contribute to the Blue Devils this spring. Reid was the Blue Devils most reliable golfer during the Fall. She averaged a team-best 81.5 strokes per game and earned a team-best fifth place finish at the ECAC Championships.
Fairleigh Dickinson took the top spot earning 10 first place votes, Sacred Heart grabbed the remaining first place vote and earned second in the poll. Long Island, Robert Morris and St. Francis (PA) rounded out the top five of the poll. Central took the sixth spot followed by Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Wagner and St. Francis (NY) with Quinnipiac finishing up the group.
The 2011 NEC Women's Golf Tournament will be held at the LPGA International Club in Daytona Beach, FL from April 21-23. Team scores will be compiled by adding the team's four lowest scores from each day. The top-10 finishers will be designated All-Tournament performers.
