Women's Track & Field Places 9th at UMASS
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team placed ninth out of 19 teams at the UMASS Minutemen Invitational on Saturday. The Blue Devils earned five bronze medals and were led by junior Shelby Tuttle who took third in both the 100 meter hurdle event and the 400 meter hurdles.
CCSU also took two team members to compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, PA on Saturday. Juniors Krisztina Dearborn and Elizabeth Eberhardt represented the Blue Devils at the meet. Dearborn placed seventh out of 45 in the 10,000 meter run and qualified for ECAC competition with her time of 35:49.81. Eberhardt also performed well with her time of 11:01.23 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for 11th place out of 40.

At UMASS, Tuttle ran a 14.46 in the 100m hurdles and a 1:03.79 in the 400m hurdles. She was joined in the 400 by freshman Jenean McCalla, who ran a 1:10.90 for 19th place.
Also performing well on an individual note was standout sophomore Ronea Saunders. Saunders, who is the reigning 2012 NEC Outdoor Track and Field Individual Champion in the high jump, claimed third in the event clearing 1.66 meters. Last year, she jumped 1.75 meters to claim the victory.
The Blue Devils also took the bronze in the 4x100 meter relay event. The team, consisting of Saunders, senior Rachel Dombrowski, junior Cassey Griffith and freshman Alyssa Gonzalez, crossed the finish line in 48.67. CCSU also claimed third in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:57.48.
In the 200m dash, Griffith placed highest of the Blue Devils, earning sixth place with her time of 25.65. She was followed by Gonzalez, who placed 17th in 26.26, and Dombrowski, who placed 23rd with a time of 26.50.
In the field events, freshman Chelse Terry was able to place 13th out of over 20 competitors in both the discus and hammer throw events. She registered a distance of 35.38 meters in the discus and 37.36 meters in the hammer throw. Terry also competed in the shot put event, where she placed 17th of 26 with a 10.66 meter mark.
Other notable performers for the Blue Devils included freshman Erin Howe, who placed 14th in the high jump with 1.46 meters, and sophomore Taylor LePage, who earned 19th in the 800 meter run with her time of 2:21.55.
