Softball's Ava Cino Named NEC Player Of the Week
KC Machado And Reagan Vunak Selected As NEC Prime Performers
Junior shortstop Ava Cino, who helped the Blue Devils take two of three home games from Stonehill over the weekend and clinch a spot in this season's Northeast Conference Championship Tournament, has been selected as the NEC's Softball Player of the Week for her outstanding play in games that took place from April 14 through 20, 2025.
Cino batted .556 on the week (5-of-9) with a total of four home runs and six runs batted in. Ava slugged a whopping 1.444 in her three games played.
In a 10-9 win over Stonehill in eight innings in the opening game of a Friday doubleheader, she slugged three homers, including a two-run, walk-off blast with two outs in the eighth.
Two of Cino's teammates, Kassandra (KC) Machado and Reagan Vunak, were also recognized by the NEC with Prime Performer nods.
Machado finished with a 545 batting average on the week with two homers and eight RBI. In a 10-1 win in five innings over Stonehill on Sunday, she went 3-for-3 with two homers and seven runs batted in, as she crushed a two-run long ball along with a grand slam.
Vunak had a .636 batting average on the week with two homers and five RBI.
The CCSU softball team will close out their 2025 regular season schedule with a non-conference doubleheader versus Brown University at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
