Men's Track Competes In Day One of NEC Championships
Junior Ry Sanderson placed third in the 3,000 meters on Saturday and the Central Connecticut men's track and field team is currently in seventh place at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Landover, MD. Sanderson crossed the line in 8:43.31 to grab six points for the Blue Devils. CCSU will continue final day action on Sunday with field events beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the first track event to run at 12:30 p.m.
Three Blue Devils had preliminary performances that qualified them for Sunday's finals. Senior Sean Smith ran a 50.55 second 400 meters to give him the fifth seed on Sunday. Junior R.J. Simeone will be the second seed in the 500 meter final as he recorded a time of 1:06.01 in Saturday's prelim heat. Senior Matthew Whalen will be competing in the 800 meter final after recording the third best time of the day, crossing the line in 1:59.09 in preliminary action.
