Senior captain Stephanie John received Northeast Conference Player of the Week honors for her performances against Presbyterian and Davidson this weekend. With this recognition she became the first CCSU lacrosse player to receive an NEC weekly award in the program's history.
John tallied seven goals, an assist, six ground balls, eight draw controls and two caused turnovers last week for the Blue Devils. In 17-16 loss at Presbyterian on Friday, John scored six goals and finished with seven points, both NEC single-game season-highs. She was instrumental in a pair of CCSU comebacks that nearly pulled out the victory for the Blue Devils. Trailing 9-4 late in the first half, John tallied twice as CCSU reeled off five straight goals over a seven-minute span to even the score at 9-9. The Blue Devils also rallied from a four-goal deficit in the second stanza as John pulled her team even with 11:16 to play on her sixth and final goal of the contest.
Two days later, she tallied a goal, two ground balls and two draw controls in a weather-shortened 11-5 loss at Davidson. John, a Lisbon, CT product, currently paces CCSU with nine goals and ten points.
The Blue Devils will host Siena on Sunday March 8 in their first
home contest of the season.
