Blue Devils Fall To Robert Morris On The Road

Junior Lyndsey Mastandrea scored two goals and recorded three draw controls as Central Connecticut (0-13, 0-6) was upended by Robert Morris (7-6, 3-2) 19-6 on the road in Moon Township, PA. Senior captain Stephanie John scored her team leading 26th goal of the season to move into second place in CCSU history with 88 career goals.

The Colonials held Central Connecticut scoreless in the first half as Jillian Howley got things started with an unassisted goal inside the first minute of play. Howley would score two more in the opening frame, while teammates Courtney Sicinsky and Kara Blakely each tallied two goals of their own in the first half. Robert Morris led 13-0 at halftime.

The Blue Devils held a seven to six draw control advantage in the first period and both teams picked up eight ground balls over the first 30 minutes. CCSU goalkeeper Alice Lee stopped seven shots in the first half, while Erica Webb stopped nine in the opening frame for the Colonials.

After Howley scored again to open the second half, Mastandrea got the Blue Devils on the board with a free position goal just over five minutes into the period. The two teams would compete equally throughout the rest of the game as RMU took this one 19-6. CCSU received goals from Mastandrea, John, freshman Ashley Perkoski, junior Courtney Mooney and sophomore Michele Conway.

The Blue Devils finished with a 13-12 advantage in draw controls with John recording a game high seven in the contest. The Colonials finished with 14 ground balls to CCSU's 13. John, as well as senior captain Jill Pomposi and sophomore Cara Momnie each picked up two ground balls for the Blue Devils. Freshman Erin DeLancey played in net for Central Connecticut during the second half and recorded five saves.

Howley led Robert Morris with four goals and one assist, while Ashley Levering tallied one goal and five assists in the victory. Jennifer Schulze came in to the goal during the second half for the Colonials and stopped eight shots.

Central Connecticut falls to 0-13 on the season and 0-6 in Northeast Conference play. The Blue Devils will continue their road trip when they take on St. Francis (PA) on Saturday April 11 at 11:00 a.m. Robert Morris improves to 7-6 and 3-2 in NEC action. The Colonials will next host Quinnipiac on Saturday April 11 at 12:00 p.m.
