Betsy Vendel Named Second Team All-NEC

Central Connecticut sophomore Betsy Vendel was named All-Northeast Conference Second Team on Thursday night. The Blue Devil attacker finished her second season in New Britain with an impressive 60 points. Her 60 points led the NEC this season and was the second highest single-season total in CCSU history.

The Central Connecticut lacrosse team fell to St. Francis (PA) in overtime on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils and Red Flash finished the first half tied at 6-6 and then finished regulation tied at 16-16, but a pair of goals by St. Francis in overtime gave them the 18-17 victory. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 6-6 on the season and 1-4 in Northeast Conference play. Sophomore Meaghan McCurry led the way for the Blue Devils with 4 goals and three assists, including the game tying score.

Sophomore Betsy Vendel scored an unassisted goal with 34 seconds left in the game to give the Blue Devils a 10-9 victory over the Colonials of Robert Morris. Sophomore Mackenzy Ryan finished the game with four points, including a hattrick.

The Central Connecticut lacrosse team dominated Liberty on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Devils improved to 4-2 on the season with the 19-10 victory. The Blue Devils led 8-6 at the half and then exploded for an 9-0 run to start the second period. Central's offense was led by five goals from sophomore Mackenzy Ryan and four from senior Michele Conway.

McCurry Earns NEC Player of the Week Honor

Central Connecticut lacrosse sophomore Meaghan McCurry has been named Northeast Conference Player of the Week for her performance in the Blue Devils last two games. McCurry has been a scoring machine this season, and was especially clutch against Manhattan College when she netted three goals in the Blue Devils late second half comeback.
