The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team heads to Cambridge, MA for day one of the Northeast Conference Championships on Wednesday. The Blue Devils finished just one point behind first-place Saint Francis (PA) last year and look to bring the title to New Britain in 2013.
Wednesday's competition will begin at 7 p.m. with the 200 medley relay finals, followed by the 800 medley relay finals. The championships will continue through Sunday, March 2.
This season, the Blue Devils earned a win over Saint Francis (PA) on Oct. 27 at the Jack Suydam Natatorium in New Britain, CT. Central split with conference foe, Wagner, falling to the Seahawks at the Blue Devil Invitational but earning a victory in the dual meet on Feb. 2 at home.
Also in conference competition, the Blue Devils competed against Bryant on Nov. 2 at the Chace Aquatic Center in Smithfield, RI where the Bulldogs gained the victory.
Central was slated to finish fourth this season in the annual preseason poll of the NEC coaches. The Blue Devils have finished in the top three in each of the 14 seasons they have been a member of the Northeast Conference. Since 1999, CCSU has accumulated five third-place finishes, six in second place and earned three championship titles (2001, 2008 and 2009).
