Women's XC 5th at Ted Owen


The Central Connecticut women's cross country team finished fifth at the 2011 Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday morning.  The Blue Devils posted a team score of 119.  Senior Alasia Griebel who finished eighth individually led central.

Griebel posted the best time for the Blue Devil women, finishing the 5K course at Stanley Park in 18:37.  Sophomore Elizabeth Eberhardt was the second Blue Devil to finish, she crossed the line in 19:07 to earn the 15th spot.

Senior Amanda Asaro finished 30th and freshman Shannon McBride took 31st.  They finished with times of 19:57 and 20:02, respectively.  The fifth Blue Devil to cross the line was sophomore Megan MacBryde.  She came across in 20:32, good for 35th place.

Marist took home the team title with a score of 55.  Rhode Island finished a single point behind in second place.  Connecticut finished in third place and Wagner took fourth just four points ahead of the Blue Devils.  Northeastern finished sixth and Bryant, Hartford, American International and Fairleigh Dickinson completed the field.

Michelle Gaye of Marist was the individual winner with a time of 18:04.

Earlier in the morning, Central's assistant coach Leah Andrianos was the top female finisher in the third annual Ray Crothers Alumni Race.

The Blue Devils will return to action on October 8, at the New England Cross Country Championships.
