The Central Connecticut baseball team won its fourth straight
game on Tuesday, topping Holy Cross 16-2 in New Britain. With the
win the Blue Devils are now 14-12-1 overall. Junior Mitch
Wells drove in three runs in the victory, as the Blue Devils
won their ninth home game of the season. They are scheduled to
play again at home on Wednesday at 3 p.m. vs. Stony Brook.
Central struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, senior Sean Miller-Jones doubled down the right field line to score the first two runs. He then scored on an RBI single from freshman J.P. Sportman, making it 3-0. Holy Cross scored one in the second to make it 3-1.
Wells hit a bases loaded triple in the bottom of the second, followed by an RBI double from senior Pat Epps. Epps would later score on a double steal to make it 8-1. An RBI single from freshman Anthony Turgeon in the fifth made it 9-1.
Sophomore Andy Lalli singled home a pair of runs in the sixth inning to push the lead to 11-1. The Crusaders scored one in the top of the seventh.
Turgeon drove in his second run of the game with a double in the seventh. A second run scored on a balk and then Miller-Jones drove in his third run of the game, followed by a sacrifice fly from Sportman to make it 15-2.
Junior right hander Harry Glynne earned the victory, moving to 3-0 on the season. He pitched seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out three.
Wells and Epps each had three hits in the game. Epps added a pair of walks and reached base in all five of his plate appearances. Wells and Miller-Jones each drove in three runs, while Turgeon, Sportman and Lalli each had two RBI.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at home vs. Stony Brook.
