Ken Horton Named Choice Hotels Men's Basketball NEC Player of the Week
Junior forward Ken
Horton wasted little time making an impact in his first season
back from injury. The junior from Ossining, NY was named the
Northeast Conference Choice Hotels men's basketball player of the
week on Monday. Horton and the Blue Devils have started the
2010-11 season 3-0, the best start since the 1998-99 season for the
Blue Devils. They play tonight at Penn State, it will be televised
live on the Big Ten Network at 7 p.m.
Horton is the recipient of the second Choice Hotels NEC Player of
the Week award of his career following a pair of spectacular
efforts in CCSU's wins at Army (101-87) and UMBC (82-74). Horton,
an All-NEC player who missed the 2009-10 campaign with an injury,
averaged 29.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and shot 65.5 percent from the
field, 54.5 percent from three-point range and 93.3 percent from
the line as the Blue Devils improved to 3-0 for the first time
since the 1998-99 season.
In CCSU's victory at Army on Monday, he exploded for a career-high
34 points and added nine rebounds, four assists and a pair of
steals. Horton was 11-15 from the field, including 4-6 from beyond
the arc, and hit all eight of his free throw attempts.
He followed up with 24 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two
blocks in Saturday's win over UMBC in Baltimore. He converted 8-14
shot attempts and was 6-7 from the charity stripe. On the year,
Horton leads the Blue Devils with 21.3 ppg and 9.0 rpg. The
Ossining, NY native also paces the team in field goal percentage
(.588) and blocks (1.7 bpg).
