Junior Ken Horton Named Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week for the Second Time
Central Connecticut junior forward Ken
Horton has been named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference
Player of the Week for the second time this season. Horton and the
Blue Devils won a pair of NEC games last week, including an
overtime win at home over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday afternoon
in which they trailed by five points with 31 seconds remaining.
Horton averaged a double-double for the week.
Horton is currently leading the NEC in both scoring (18.3 ppg) and
rebounding (8.3 rpg) and also leads the NEC in rebounding in league
games averaging just under 10 per game (9.8). He is third in
league scoring at 19.1 points per game in eight league games.
Horton is the recipient of his second Choice Hotels NEC Player of
the Week award of the season and third of his career after he
recorded a pair of double-doubles in two Central Connecticut wins
last week. He averaged 25.5 points and 12.0 rebounds, while
shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the
charity stripe.
Horton netted 28 points and matched his career-high with 14 boards
in a 66-47 triumph at Monmouth on Thursday. He converted 10-14
shots from the floor, including 2-3 from three-point territory to
help the Blue Devils recover from a nine-point first half
deficit.
Two nights later, Horton rang up 23 points and snared 10 caroms as
CCSU rallied late to force overtime before prevailing over visiting
Fairleigh Dickinson, 72-67. Following a long inbounds pass, the
Ossining, NY product assisted on Shemik
Thompson's game-tying bucket with three seconds to play in
regulation. With the score tied at 58-58 and under two minutes to
play in the extra session, Horton tallied five points in an 8-0 run
to ice the game for CCSU, which improved to 5-3 in league
play.
Horton leads the NEC in both scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.3
rpg), and ranks second in double-doubles (five), fifth in blocks
(1.3 bpg) and seventh in free throw percentage (.846). He has 26
career 20+ point games to his credit, the most among active NEC
players, and has accumulated 1,177 career points.
