Central Tabbed Second In Preseason Poll

The Central Connecticut men's golf team was tabbed second in the 2012 NEC men's golf preseason poll on Thursday.  The Blue Devils gathered two first place nods in the voting.  Sacred Heart received four fist place votes and was picked as the preseason favorite ranking first in the poll ahead of Central.  St. Francis (P.A.) and Robert Morris were picked third and fourth respectively, each with one first place vote a piece.  LIU Brooklyn, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, and Fairleigh Dickinson were voted in the middle of the pack.  Wagner and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the rankings being voted ninth and 10th, respectively.

Central Connecticut and head coach Kevin Giancola will look to make a run at this year's championship on the wings of 2011 NEC Rookie of the Year Daniel Morgan. The sophomore turned in progressive scorecards throughout his rookie season, posting top-10 finishes in two spring invitationals. The Aussie capped of his freshman season by earning a top-20 finish at the NEC Championship where he placed 16th.

Morgan will be flanked by senior Kevin Josephson who earned second team All-Conference accolades in 2011. The Connecticut product earned three NEC Golfer of the Week nods throughout the 2011 season, two of which honored his first-place finishes at the Blue Devil Invitational and Macdonald Cup, respectively. Josephson's scores at the Macdonald Cup (67-69= 136) represented the lowest 18-hole score of any league golfer throughout the season.

The Blue Devils will open up their 2012 campaign on March 22nd and 23rd at the Barona Collegiate Cup in San Diego CA.
