CCSU Women's Golf Adds Three for 2009-10 Season
Central Connecticut women's golf head coach Paula
Cloud announced her 2009-10 class today. Anna Ausanio,
Stephanie Bednar and Katie Reid have signed national letters of
intent to join the Blue Devils this fall.
"Our program is fortunate to be adding three successful
student-athletes for this upcoming season," Cloud said. "All three
bring a strong, competitive background to the team. Their playing
experience is going to aid in taking Central Connecticut women's
golf to the next level."
Ausanio, a Hopewell Junction, NY native, played on the John Jay
High School boys' golf team as a freshman. She then spearheaded an
effort to organize the first girls' golf team in the district.
Ausanio, a two-time Poughkeepsie Journal Player of the Year, didn't
lose an individual match throughout her junior and senior seasons.
A three-year captain, she earned All-State honors after placing
second in the NYSPHSA State Tournament as a senior. Ausanio also
collected All-State, all-section and all-league honors in field
hockey.
Bednar, who also hails from New York, competed with the Hudson High
School boys' golf team for four years. The Hudson, NY native,
a two-time ladies club champion at Columbia Golf and Country Club,
is also active in the PGA Junior Golf Association and the Greene
County Junior golf program. In addition being the NENY PGA Junior
Golf Tour champion she has won two straight NYS Elks Club titles
and the NEGCSA junior crown. Bednar, a scholar-athlete award
winner, was also victorious at the Van Schaick Junior Open, the Bob
Mix Junior Tournament and the Schenectady Gazette Junior
Championships.
Reid, an Orangeville, Ontario native, completes the class. A
member of the Shelburne Golf and Country Club, she won the ladies
club championship in 2008. Reid also won the 2007 University
Prospects Golf Tournament and the 2007 Tour Team Championships. In
addition, she has collected various titles on the Pepsi Titleist
Junior Tour. Reid is also a member of the Orangeville District
High School golf team. She placed 11th at the Provincial Golf
Championships in the fall of 2008.
The trio will join five golfers returning from last season's team.
The Blue Devils placed seventh at the Northeast Conference
Championships.
