Barnum, Clark Earn NEC Weekly Football Honors
Olson and Wright were named Prime Performers
Central Connecticut State juniors Kimal Clark, Defensive Player of the Week, and Jack Barnum, Special Teams Player of the Week, were both recognized by the Northeast Conference on Monday. Clark was joined as an NEC Prime Performer by Brady Olson and Malachi Wright.
Barnum is the second consecutive Blue Devil to take home the special team's honor. The Southington, CT successfully executed an onside kick to open the second half, putting the ball into play and recovering it. The recovery set the Blue Devils up for a go-ahead scoring drive, give Central a 28-21 advantage. Barnum connected on a 25-yard field goal and was 4-4 on PATs in the game at UMass on Saturday. Through four weeks, Barnum leads the NEC in field goals per game, 1.25, and field goal percentage, .714.
Clark, a Lackawanna, NY native, recorded a career-high 18 tackles for the Blue Devils defense. He recorded 10 of those tackles in the opening half, as CCSU played to a 21-21 tie midway through the game. Clark is fourth in the nation, and first in the NEC, with 11.5 tackles per game this season. His 5.5 solo tackles a game, of which he had eight on Saturday, is 12th nationally through four weeks of play.
Olson threw for a pair of touchdowns, completing 12 passes for 157 yards on Saturday to earn his prime performer recognition. Wright had a career-high 12 tackles, six solo, for the CCSU defense to take home his second prime performer of the season.
The Blue Devils, 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the NEC, have a bye in week five. CCSU will travel to Yale on October 5th before returning home to host Mercyhurst on October 12th.
