Football Draws #10 Rhode Island In FCS Playoff Opener
The Blue Devils will play Saturday at noon.
The Central Connecticut State football team will travel to #10 Rhode Island in the opening round of the 2024 FCS Playoffs. The first-round game will be played Saturday, November 30th at 12:00 pm and will be aired on ESPN+.
The Blue Devils are making their third appearance in the FCS playoffs. CCSU fell 14-0 to #21 New Hampshire in 2017 and 42-14 to Albany in 2019.
The Blue Devils, who won the Northeast Conference automatic bid, defeated #19 Duquesne on Saturday, 21-14, to secure their seventh NEC Championship. That is tied for the most football championships in league history. CCSU is 7-5 overall and 5-1 in NEC play.
CCSU has won four straight games to end the season. The Blue Devils average 24.9 points per game on the year and are +0.8 in scoring margin for the year. CCSU is 7-3 in FCS play, with those three losses by a combined eight points.
CCSU and URI will meet for the fifth time, with Rams holding a 3-1 lead in the series. The squads last met in 2014, a 38-14 win for the Blue Devils. The first meeting came in 2004, with a 2005 and 2013 matchup all going to URI.
