Javier Mojica and Puerto Rico Come Up Just Short in Bid For 2008 Olympics
Former Blue Devil and Northeast Conference Player of the Year Javier Mojica and the Puerto Rico National Basketball Team came up short in their bid for a trip to the 2008 Olympic Games over the weekend. Mojica and his teammates, who advanced to the semi-finals with a win over Slovenia on Friday, dropped games to Greece (88-63) and Germany (96-82) over the weekend to finish FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in fourth place. The top three teams qualified for the Olympics.

Javier Mojica and the Puerto Rico National Basketball Team came up
short in their bid for a trip to the 2008 Olympic Games over the
weekend. Mojica and his teammates, who advanced to the semi-finals
with a win over Slovenia on Friday, dropped games to Greece
(88-63) and Germany (96-82) over the weekend to finish FIBA Olympic
Qualifying Tournament in fourth place. The top three teams
qualified for the Olympics.
The team reached the semi-final round by way of a victory over
Slovenia on Friday afternoon. Mojica played 15 minutes on Friday
and was 3-for-3 from the field including a pair of three point
baskets. He led his team with seven rebounds and was 1-for-2 from
the free-throw line.
On Saturday the team lost to Greece, the host of the tournament,
and then in the third-place game on Sunday they dropped a decision
to Germany for the third and final qualifying spot. Mojica played
15 minutes in the loss and grabbed seven rebounds, the
second-highest total for the team.
