Women's Basketball to Host Quinnipiac in Pink Zone Game
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team will host Quinnipiac in Detrick Gym on Saturday afternoon. The game will be the featured event in Central's participation in National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The game will also serve as CCSU's Pink Zone Game.
The Blue Devils (11-12, 5-7 NEC) and Bobcats (17-6, 9-3 NEC) will tip-off at 1 p.m. live on NortheastConference.tv. The "NEC Rivalry Game" between Central and Quinnipiac will be one of two games featured on NEC.tv this week.
Last season, Central and Quinnipiac split a pair of regular season games with the home team winning each time. The Bobcats used a buzzer beater to win, 76-75, at TD Bank Sports Center. A month later, the Blue Devils used a late push to top the Bobcats, 61-58, at Detrick Gym.
This season, the Blue Devils are led by junior Jaclyn Babe who is averaging 15.6 points/game. Babe has six 20-point games this season, including a 22-point performance at St. Francis (NY) in Monday night.
Under the basket, junior Kirsten Daamenis leading the NEC with 61 blocks this season. In addition to leading the NEC, her 2.7 blocks/game rank 18th nationally. She is also contributing 13.2 points/game on offense.
The Blue Devils go on the road for three games following Saturday's contest. Central travels to Quinnipiac to complete the NEC Rivalry Week series on Wednesday night and then coach Beryl Piper's squad heads to Robert Morris and St. Francis (PA).
