WBB Signs Two for Class of 2016

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team has received commitments from Te'Jahne Malone and Kayla Miller for the 2012-13 season.  Both student-athletes will enroll at CCSU as freshman next year after completing standout high school careers.

Malone, who goes by TJ, is a 5-10 guard/forward from Waldorf, Maryland.  At Westlake High School she earned Girl's Basketball County Athlete of the Year honors in 2012 and was named Most Valuable Player.  Under the guidance of coach Ardell Jackson, Malone led the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference in scoring on her way to a First Team All-SMAC selection as a senior.

"The addition of TJ Malone will give us another player capable of scoring and rebounding," head coach Beryl Piper said.  "She will be a force on the boards.  I can't wait to watch her get after it."

Miller, a 5-10 guard/forward from East Greenbush, NY, was a two-time First Team Big Ten All-Star at Bishop Maginn High School.  Playing under coach Julie Reilly, she also earned Second Team Large School All-Area and Second Team All-Star honors from the Schenectady Gazette.  A member of the National Honor Society, Miller also earned numerous scholar-athlete awards and was a standout triple-jump competitor for her high school's track and field squad.

"Kayla is an athletic wing player that has the ability to take it to the basket," said Piper.  "We are excited to have a player with her speed and athletic ability join our program."

Earlier this winter the Blue Devils received a National Letter of Intent from Raven Makins and Nicole Ferguson.  With the addition of Malone and Miller the women's basketball program will now welcome four student-athletes this fall.

Story on Makins and Ferguson

Piper added, "I am very excited to have these two young ladies join Nicole and Raven in the Class of 2016."

TJ Malone on CCSU: "The coaching staff is knowledgeable and has the experience to lead a team to a championship.  The team seemed to be united and family-like.  Also, the college has one the best business progams in the area."

Kayla Miller on CCSU: "I chose CCSU because of its variety of academic opportunities and its intensive athletic program for basketball.  As soon as I stepped on campus it felt like a home away from home."
