Central Connecticut State University head women's lacrosse coach Kelly Nangle has added Jane Karger to her coaching staff for the 2011-12 year. Karger comes to New Britain after coaching stints at both Mount St. Mary's and Connecticut College. She was a standout goalkeeper for The Mount during her collegiate playing career.
"Jane will bring experience as a collegiate coach and player to our goalkeepers and defenders," Nangle said. "I am very excited to have her join my staff this year. I have worked with Jane as both a player and a coach, and I know she will be a great addition to this program. Her knowledge of the Northeast Conference, and her experience as a player will make us a better team."
Karger spent the 2010 season as the assistant coach at Connecticut College. With her help, four student-athletes garnered Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region Honors last season.
During her previous coaching stint at Mount St. Mary's she worked primarily with the defenders, especially the goalkeepers. Over her two years at The Mount, eight student-athletes earned All-NEC honors, including five on the first team. The Mountaineers also boasted the 2009 NEC Defensive Player of the Year.
As a player at The Mount, Karger finished second all-time in minutes played and fourth in career saves. Her team reached the conference tournament in each of her seasons. In addition, the Mountaineers captured the 2005 NEC Championship and the accompanying NCAA Tournament berth. They won two NEC Regular Season titles (2005 and 2007) and advanced to the championship game twice.
Individually, Karger earned an NEC All-Tournament selection, a NEC Academic Honor Roll selection and was invited to the North/South Division I All-Star Game following her senior season in 2008.
