Lacrosse Falls to Quinnipiac, 14-11

The Central Connecticut lacrosse team fell to Quinnipiac on Friday afternoon.  The Blue Devils (7-8, 5-3 NEC) outscored the Bobcats (8-6, 7-1 NEC) in the second half, but fell short of completing their comeback attempt.  Senior Ashley Perkoski set a new CCSU record for assists in a season by running her total for the year to 32.

The Blue Devils got on the board with their first goal of the game at the 23:19 mark in the first period.  Perkoski passed to sophomore Claire Healy who scored to make it a 3-1 game.

After three goals by the Bobcats, Perkoski passed to senior Ashley Mara who scored Central's second goal of the game.

Following a Quinnipiac goal, junior Meaghan McCurry scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 7-3.  Junior Betsy Vendel assisted on McCurry's first goal.

Just three minutes later, McCurry completed her hat-trick, again with the help of Vendel.

Down 9-5 at the half, the Blue Devils made a furious second half come back.

McCurry opened the period with her fourth goal of the game on a free position shot, but Quinnipiac answered with four goals.  From their the Blue Devils began their comeback, which fell just short.

Mara helped McCurry score her fifth goal of the game at the 11:25 mark and a minute and a half later junior Mackenzy Ryan scored with the help of Perkoski.

Quinnipiac scored its 14th goal, but Central came right back to score the final three goals of the game.

Senior Cara Momnie scored an unassisted goal, Perkoski scored with the help of McCurry, and with just under five minutes remaining Ryan scored the final goal of the game with the help of Perkoski.

McCurry finished the game with six points and scored five goals for the second straight game.

Perkoski finished the game with four assists and 32 on the season.  She broke CCSU's single-season assist record of 29, that was set by Betsy Vendel last year.

The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday at Sacred Heart.  The game will be the regular season finale for both teams and will carry playoff implications for both.
