The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to Villanova by a score of 11-8 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils (0-3) were led by four goals from junior Amanda Toke and senior Betsy Vendel's goal and four assists.
The Blue Devils trailed the Wildcats 4-0 before junior Claire Healy got CCSU on the board with a free position goal with 13:10 left in the first half.
Villanova (1-2) added three more goals in the period to take a 7-1 lead into halftime.
Following the half, freshman Elyse Malecki recorded her first career goal and Toke posted her first goal of the game with the help of Vendel. The two scores cut CCSU's defcit to 7-3 just minutes into the second period.
The Wildcats scored two more goals to take a 9-3 lead, but CCSU answered with two goals of its own. Vendel scored on a pass from Healy and then Toke netted her second of the game, again with the assist coming from Vendel.
After a 10th Villanova goal, the Blue Devils rattled off three straight scores to pull to 10-8. Toke scored on a free position shot with 8:07 left to play and then 40 seconds later she again found the back of the net with the help of Vendel.
CCSU capped the run with Vendel passing to Malecki for her second goal of the game.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats halted the Blue Devils momentum with their 11th and final goal of the game less than a minute after Malecki's score.
Sophomore Morgan Tullar registered four saves in goal.
Senior Ali Roche led the CCSU defense with four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Vendel and Toke were all over the field for the Blue Devils. Vendel recorded five points on four assists and a goal and had three draw controls and a ground ball. Toke posted four goals, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Malecki also had a strong game for CCSU with two goals, two draw controls and a ground ball.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday night against Siena. The Saints visit Arute Field for a 7 p.m. contest.
