The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team recorded 45 out of its 86 points in the 500 freestyle during day one of competition at the ECAC Championships at Blodgett Pool on the campus of Harvard University. The Blue Devils currently stand in seventh place out of 23 scoring teams, while the host Crimson lead the way with 161 points. Senior Erin Crowley was the top swimmer for CCSU, taking second in the 500 free with a career best of 4:54.43. Sophomore Megan McGorry and senior Heather Vendetta finished third and seventh in the event with times of 4:57.79 and 5:05.63, respectively.
Freshman Alex Czaplicki tallied 16 points for Central, placing third in the 200 individual medley. She touched in at 2:05.21 in the event. Freshman Mallory Miller was the final individual to score points during opening day action of the ECAC Championships as she placed sixth in the three-meter diving event with a score of 201.75. The Blue Devil 200 freestyle relay team of Alyssa Carlucci, Deirdre Burke, Kristen Malski and Kandra Kane took 11th in 1:42.43 to score 12 points. The CCSU 400 medley relay team had the third fastest time of the day during preliminary action but was disqualified from the event.
Central Connecticut will continue their attempt at defending the
ECAC crown on Saturday with prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. and
finals starting at 6:00 p.m. On the schedule for second day action
is the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100
breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 800 free relay.
