Central Connecticut State University Director of Athletics
Paul Reseterits announced on Thursday August 27, 2009, that Jeff
Franquet has been named the new head softball coach at CCSU.
Franquet joins the Blue Devils after spending the past three
seasons as the head softball coach at Georgian Court
University.
"I am thankful for the opportunity to coach at CCSU," Franquet
said. "I am looking forward to meeting the Blue Devil Athletics
family. We are prepared to start a new tradition in softball here
at CCSU. The addition of the new turf field will give us the
ability to bring in the student-athletes that we will need to make
that happen. We will start with a few important ingredients;
respect, pride and loyalty. It will take a lot of hard work and
dedication to get this done, but I know the team is ready to
go."
While at Georgian Court, Franquet led the Lions to two Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championships (2007,
2009) and made appearances in the past three NCAA Regional
Championships. In 2009, after leading his team to an NCAA East
Two Regional Championship and coming within one victory of the NCAA
Division II Women's College World Series, Franquet's Georgian Court
squad finished the season ranked 13th in the nation. Along with
his coaching staff, Franquet earned Coaching Staff of the Year
honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for their
efforts during the 2009 season.
"Jeff has had many successes throughout his playing and
coaching career," Resterits said. "His strengths as a coach and a
leader will benefit the CCSU Athletics community immensely. We
look forward to his leadership providing an immediate impact on the
softball program."
Before Georgian Court, Franquet spent time as a head coach at
Jacksonville University (2001-2005), Central Florida Community
College (1999-2001) and Freedom High School (1997-1999). He also
has coached the Yuengling Patriots Women's Class A softball team
since 1997 and won the Amateur Softball Association National
Championship in 2001. This summer, Franquet wore two hats as he
made his debut as head coach of the Philadelphia Force, a member of
the NPF (National Pro Fastpitch). Franquet received his bachelor's
degree from Mansfield University in 1992.
