Swimmers Open Gompei Invite With 23 Evening Swims on Friday

The Central Connecticut State swim team opened competition at the 2024 Gompei Invitational on Friday.  The Blue Devils had 23 swims in the evening session and totaled 498 points. The team score is based on the combined totals of men's and women's teams at the event.

WPI is the host of the three-day event. Preliminary heats will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday, with the second night of finals getting underway at 6:00 pm.

200 Medley Relay

• The Blue Devils placed 10^th with a swim of 1:50.34, as Sophie Milhomens (27.61), Julia Herbert (32.18), Lauryn Cowing (23.97) and Katrine O'Leary (23.97) teamed up for the relay
• Megan Dunnigan (28.50), Grace Young (31.67), Hannah Kretkowski (24.86) and Gabby Spaciano (24.86) placed 13^th with a time of 1:52.05

200 IM

• Gabi Wroblewski was the Blue Devils top finisher, placing 20^th with a swim of 2:18.56 in the consolation final
• Kyla Behrle (2:19.22) and Jule Herbert (2:22.42) swam in the C Final and placed 26^th and 29^th respectively

50 Freestyle

• O'Leary was the top placer for the Blue Devils, going 24.80 Friday night, to place 15^th
• The Blue Devils had three swimmers in the C Final, with Cowing winning the heat in a time of 25.35
• Spaciano placed 23^rd with a swim of 25.52 and Dunnigan went 25.71 to earn 26^th place

500 Freestyle

• The Blue Devils had three finalists in the event led by Maggie Rutledge and a swim of 5:10.66 to place fifth
• Abbey Keane touched seventh in a time of 5:11.77 and Milhomens was eighth, at 5:11.17
• Spaciano touched 14^th with a 5:16.07 effort in the consolation heat
• Taylor Demarest finished 24^th, swimming 5:21,48 and Kretkowski was 28^th with a swim of 5:28.28

200 Breaststroke

• Young was the team's top swimmer, placing 12^th at 2:28.90
• Veronica Okurowski (2:35.05) and Herbert (2:41.89) placed 16^th and 20^th respectively

100 Butterfly

• Cowing (1:01.02) and Dunnigan (1:01.11) went 19^th and 20^th in the consolation heat
• Kretkowski finished 26^th in the event, clocking a time of 1:02.15

800 Free Relay

• Milhomens (1:59.12), Keane (2:00.29), Spaciano (1:57.65) and Dunnigan (1:59.41) combined to place fourth in the relay, going 7:56.47
• The relay of Rutledge (2:00.75), Lauren Lord (2:04.41), Demarest (2:06.25) and Kretkowski (2:05.64) finished 12^th with a swim of 8:17.05
