Milhomens Wins 200 Back To Wrap Up Gompei Invitational
Blue Devils had seven qualify for evening swims in 200 butterfly
The Central Connecticut State swim team concluded its three-day showing at the Gompei Invitational on Sunday. The event was hosted by WPI in Worcester, MA.
The Blue Devils totaled 1,508 points over the three-day meet.
CCSU returns to action when a quarter of swimmers compete at the CSCAA Open Water National Championships. Taylor Demarest, Abbey Keane, Maggie Rutledge, and Gabby Spaciano will compete at the event in Florida on December 15th
100 Freestyle
- Katrine O'Leary went 53.66 in the consolation final, to place 13th
- Gabby Spaciano finished 18th, touching at 54.64
- Lauryn Cowing tied for 25th with a swim of 54.91
200 Backstroke
- Sophie Milhomens won the 200 backstroke, leading the entire race, and finished with a 2:04.57
- Megan Dunnigan also swam in the A Finale, placing fifth with a swim of 2:08.17
100 IM
- O'Leary clocked a 1:01.90 to finish 11th
- Julia Herbert went 1:05.54 to place 18th and Lauren Lord finished 23rd with a swim of 1:06.30
200 Butterfly
- Gabi Wroblewski was the top finisher, of seven that ha evening swims, finishing fifth with a time of 2:11.05
- Milhomens also swam in the A Final, finishing eighth, with a time of 2:12.91
- Kyla Behrle earned 15th place with a consolation heat swim of 2:16.01 and Marley Milne was 19th after putting up a 2:19.50 swim
- Jillena Plowucha won the C final, dropping nearly four seconds from her preliminary swim and finishing at 2:19.66
- Wynter Berube (2:24.75) and Lord (2:25.85) placed 26th and 27th respectively
50 Breaststroke
- Grace Young went 31.80 to earn ninth place
- Herbert and Veronica Okurowski finished 14th and 15th, posting times of 33.34 and 33.50
1,650 Freestyle
- Maggie Rutledge took bronze, with a swim of 17:42.28, while Taylor Demarest finished in fifth place, going 17:45.86
- Sophie Pincince (18:14.69) picked up 11th place for the Blue Devils, while Wynter Berube (18:40.32) and Behrle (18:41.79) finished 13th and 14th
400 Freestyle Relay
- Milhomens (54.15), Young (54.45), Cowing (53.64) and O'Leary (54.03) swam together to a sixth-place finish, with a final time of 3:36.27
- Dunnigan (56.10), Okurowski (56.16), Plowucha (55.48) and Spaciano (57.06) went 3:44.80 to earn 14th place
