Marin Named NEC Track & Field Rookie of the Week
Central Connecticut State thrower Maya Marin was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Wednesday. She was joined as an NEC Prime Performer by teammates Mya Morabito and Wanesha Stewart.
Marin earned the accolade after throwing a then-record throw of 44.82m in the discus that eventually earned sixth place at the UConn Northeast Challenge. She followed with a personal-best 42.39m throw in the javelin, good for third place
Stewart placed third in the discus, reclaiming her school-record mark from Marin with a throw of 47.66m. She also had a personal-best in the hammer throw, at 44.15m and finished fifth in the shot put at 13.06m
Morabito ran a career-best 4:33.59 in the 1500 to place sixth and also ran on the 4x400 relay that had a season-best time of 4:10.77.
The Blue Devils are back in action when it hosts its Spring Invitational on Friday, April 25. CCSU will also have a group competing at the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 24.
