Women's Track & Field Finishes Second At NEC Championship
Maya Marin named Rookie of the Meet
The Central Connecticut State women's outdoor track and field team finished as the runner-up at the 2025 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, contested at Stonehill College. The Blue Devils racked up 146 points over the two-day championship, 21 shy of team champion, Wagner.
The Blue Devils won four individual gold medals on the final day of the championship. Wenesha Stewart, Maya Marin, Mya Morabito and Kaylee Gravel each captured events for CCSU on the day.
Marin was named the NEC Outstanding Rookie Performer at the championship, with her two medal performance.
The Blue Devils return to action at the New England Championships, May 9-10 at UMass.
FINALS
- The Blue Devils placed four in the top-six of the discus, led by gold medalist Wenesha Stewart who threw the winning distance, 42.82m of the final throw
- Marin earned gold in the javelin, throwing 41.00m and was joined in the point scoring column by Stewart (31.80m) and Lyndsey Gravel (31.80m) who finished seventh and eighth respectively
- Mya Morabito made a move on the penultimate lap of the 1500m to take the lead and ran away from the field over the final 400 to take gold with a time of 4:29.0
- Kaylee Gravel gave CCSU a win in the 800m as she led the entire way, finishing in a time of 2:15.0
- Marin took silver in the discus, with a 41.80m effort, while Payton Lowe (40.84m) placed fourth and Marina Perry (38.44m) was sixth
- Juliana Cancellieri earned her second medal of the weekend, finishing third in the 5000m with a run of 17:45.43, while Morabito (18:47.17) was seventh and Rebecca Carusone (18:22.62) was eighth
- The Blue Devils 4x100m relay of Nuchwara Inthasit, Erin Egan, Kyrah Smith and Jessica Farrell ran 48.11 to finish fourth
- The 4x400 relay closed the meet with a fourth-place finish as well, running 3:51.99
- Farrell ran 56.52 in the 400m to finish fourth, with Kayla Logan sixth at 57.83
- Taina DeJesus finished fifth in the 400m hurdles, running 1:04.05
- DeJesus (15.23) was seventh in the 100m hurdles, just behind Shania McCall (15.12) in sixth place and in front of Jasmine Ogando (15.32) in eighth place
- Isabella Jensen (11:52.07) and Isabelle Mondo (12:07.18) placed sixth and eighth in the 3000m steeplechase
