Senior Tim Buczak carded a 69 to lead the Central Connecticut men's golf team at the Rutgers Invitational, CCSU's first action of the fall season. The 69 is Buczak's low round as a Blue Devil. He shot 35-34 on the par-71, 6337-yard Rutgers Golf Course and is one stroke off the lead, which is shared by three golfers. As a team, the Blue Devils posted a 293 and are in eighth place. USC-Upstate leads the field following an opening round team score of 281. Bryant is second, three shots off the pace. Final round tee times will begin tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
Sophomore Tom Ursa is five strokes behind Buczak in a tie for 33rd following opening round play. He shot 37-37 for the Blue Devils. Teammates Eric Hawerchuk and Sam Pelletier, also sophomores, each turned in rounds of 75, while junior Sean Lally rounded out the CCSU field with an 80.
The Blue Devils are second out of eight Northeast Conference teams in the 24-team field. Long Island shot 289 and is currently sixth. Sacred Heart (295), Monmouth (300), Quinnipiac (300), Mount St. Mary's (306), Fairleigh Dickinson (317) and Wagner (343) are also competing.
