Central Connecticut sophomore Eric Hawerchuk shot a 76 to lead the Blue Devils in opening round play at the Dartmouth Invitational. He is tied for 10th, four strokes off the lead. Playing the par 71 Hanover Country Club in Hanover, NH, the Blue Devils are fourth out of nine teams after day one action. They shot a 314 and trail host Dartmouth by 16 strokes heading into tomorrow's final round.
Sophomore Tom Ursa added a 77 for the Blue Devils. He is tied for 16th. Senior Tim Buczak, meanwhile, shot 80. Freshman Tucker Dooley and sophomore Sam Pelletier rounded out the CCSU team with rounds of 81 and 82, respectively. Hawerchuk and Dooley both played the par fives at one under, while Buczak was even on the par threes. Ursa had three birdies.
Dartmouth freshman Peter Williamson is on top of the leaderboard after carding a 72. He holds a one stroke lead over four golfers. Bryant is in second in the team standings. The Bulldogs shot 304. Quinnipiac (307) is third, with CCSU and Saint Anselm (316) completing the top five.
Final round play begins tomorrow morning.
