Sophomore Tom Ursa posted opening rounds of 72 and 71 to lead Central Connecticut at the Macdonald Cup hosted by Yale. Ursa is three over par through two rounds on the par 70 Yale Golf Course. His 143 total puts him in 13th on the individual leaderboard heading into tomorrow's final round action. The Blue Devils shot 300 as a team in both rounds and are tied for ninth in the 15-team field. Northeast Conference foe Sacred Heart trails Oklahoma by one stroke after shooting 280-292. The Sooners shot 283-288. Flagler College junior Erik Downs is in the lead after carding rounds of 67 and 69.
In addition to Ursa, Blue Devil sophomore Eric Hawerchuk is in the top-15 out of 81 participants. Hawerchuk shot a 74 in the morning 18 before posting a team-best 70 in the afternoon. He is in 14th. Freshmen Tucker Dooley (78-78) and Greg Beloin (76-81) and senior Tim Buczak (80-81) rounded out the CCSU field.
Ursa was one of just four players to record an eagle, helping put him tied for first in par five scoring at three under par. As a team, Central Connecticut is tied for second in par five scoring at four under par.
Final round play begins tomorrow morning.
