The Central Connecticut women's basketball team was picked to finish 11th in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll released this morning. Coming off a 4-25 season in her first year at the helm of the program, head coach Beryl Piper returns six players and welcomes six newcomers for the 2008-09 campaign. Robert Morris, the two-time defending NEC Champion, was picked to again repeat by the NEC coaches. Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart followed the Colonials in the poll.

the Blue Devils in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.
Monmouth and Fairleigh Dickinson rounded out the poll's top five. Long Island, Mount St. Mary's and St. Francis (PA) were slotted sixth through eighth. St. Francis (NY) and Wagner were tied for ninth. Robert Morris and Quinnipiac each picked up four first place votes. Sacred Heart took the other three.
The Blue Devils did not have a selection to the preseason All-NEC team. Jennifer Bender (Monmouth), Erin Kerner (Quinnipiac), Sade Logan (Robert Morris), Stephanie Ryan (Sacred Heart) and Kaitlin Sowinski (Sacred Heart) were selected by the league coaches for the 2008 NEC preseason team.
CCSU opens the season on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the University of South Florida. The Blue Devils will play the Bulls at 5 p.m. and then either Harvard or Loyola (MD) on Sunday, Nov. 16 in the USF Shootout. The home season gets underway on Nov. 20. Maine will be coming to Detrick Gym for a 7 p.m. contest.
