Dugan Leads Quartet of Blue Devils in Double Figures, CCSU Wins by 20 Points Over Colgate
Central Connecticut (6-5) had four players score 10 points or more in an 83-63 non-conference home win over Colgate (3-10). Sophomore Kerrianne Dugan led the Blue Devils with a season-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Sophomore Leanne Crockett added 13 points, and junior P.J. Wade had 12 points. Freshman Shontice Simmons contributed 11 points. CCSU made 33-of-62 shots (53.2 percent) and had 23 assists against 12 turnovers in the win.
The Blue Devils opened the game 8-of-11 from the field. The sharp shooting aided in a 23-8 start. After Colgate sophomore Sami Kozlowski cut the margin to 23-10, CCSU went on an 8-0 run capped by a Crockett three-pointer. The 31-10 margin was Central Connecticut's largest of the opening half. The Raiders did not get any closer than 14 points for the remainder of the game.
CCSU made 16-of-29 shots (55.2 percent) over the first 20 minutes. Dugan had 12 points to lead the Blue Devils. Crockett added 10 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Justina Udenze had four points, six rebounds and four assists. Central Connecticut had 10 assists against seven turnovers in the first half. The Blue Devils also forced nine Colgate miscues. Freshman Tricia Oakes paced the Raiders with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Central Connecticut led 41-26.
The Blue Devils opened the second half with a 10-0 run and held Colgate scoreless for the half's first 5:03. After Crockett sandwiched a three-pointer between two Raider triples to make it a 54-32 game, CCSU used an 11-0 run to take its largest lead of the season, 65-32. Colgate closed to within 19 points down the stretch, but freshman Christie Leverette made it a 20-point margin with a three-pointer in the final minute.
In addition to their solid shooting and positive assist-to-turnover output, Central Connecticut outrebounded Colgate, 31-29, and had 16 steals. Leverette led the Blue Devils with four steals. She also finished with a season-high seven points. Dugan added four points, four assists and two steals to her line, while Simmons had five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Udenze established a career high with six assists. She also had a season-best 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Tayler Wejnert led Colgate, which never led, with 20 points and six rebounds.
Central Connecticut will return to the court on Friday, Jan. 2. The Blue Devils tip-off at 7 p.m. against Longwood in Farmville, VA.
