Baseball Held Off at Quinnipiac on Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team had its rally come up just short at Quinnipiac on Saturday, falling 11-10 at QU Baseball Field in Hamden, CT. CCSU would make it a one-run game, but QU managed to strand four CCSU baserunners in scoring position in the final three innings to hold on for the win.

KEY MOMENTS
- Quinnipiac scored an unearned run in the first inning before adding five runs in the second. The Bobcats strung together five singles, including RBI-hits by Gabe Wright and Kyle Garbowski to go ahead 3-0. CJ Willis singled home a pair of runs before a sac fly accounted for another run to make it 6-0.
- The Blue Devils would come back with six runs in the top of the third inning. The bases were loaded with no outs and Gianno Merlonghi cleared the bags with a double. He would come around to score on a Chris Brown single to make it 6-4. Brown would score on a sac fly by Antonio Ducatelli, before an infield single by Brandon O'Neill drove in a run to tie it 6-6.
- QU retook the lead with a three-run homer by Gabe Wright in the bottom of the third to make it 9-6.
- Ducatelli and O'Neill would each drive in a run in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to one run.
- Solo homeruns by Alex Irizarry and Sebastian Mueller in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, would push the Bobcats' lead back to 11-8.
- Brown singled to lead off the top of the seventh inning for Central. He scored on the next batter when Bo Yaworski tripled to the gap in right-center to make it 11-9. Quinnipiac left him stranded with three straight strikeouts to end the inning.
- Central would work the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth inning. Yaworski brought home a run by drawing a walk to make it 11-10. The Bobcats would make a pitching change and avoided further damage by inducing a fly ball.
- Louis Jordan would single and move to second with two outs in the ninth inning. Quinnipiac would close the threat with a game-ending fly ball.
NOTES
- Yaworski went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. He hit his team-leading sixth triple of the season, a total which places him seventh nationally.
- Brown collected two hits, his 12th multi-hit game of the season.
- Merlonghi had three RBIs, while Ducatelli and O'Neill added two RBIs.
- Central was limited to nine hits as a team, ending its streak of double-digit hits as a team at 22 games.
- Central scored 10+ runs for the 16th time this season.
- The Blue Devils have dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season.
- CCSU is 43-27 against Quinnipiac all-time.
