Baseball Falls at Wagner in Series Finale Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team was held off by Wagner, 8-6, in Northeast Conference action on Saturday in Trenton, NJ. The Blue Devils would put the tying runners on base in the ninth inning, but the Seahawks got a game-ending strikeout to seal the win.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils pushed across three runs in the top of the first inning. Brady Short led off with a single and advanced on a single by Aidan Redahan. Chris Brown would double to drive in the opening run before Bo Yaworski followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0.
- Wagner would score four times in the second inning to take the lead. Matt Sutera drove in a pair and Lukas Torres singled in a run following a passed ball that allowed a run to cross.
- CCSU took advantage of three walks and a hit batter to score a run in the third. Antonio Ducatelli's bases-loaded walk forced in a run to make it 4-4.
- Wagner retook the lead in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back singles and a sacrifice moved runners into scoring position. A groundout by Xavier Ulrich drove in a run to make it 5-4.
- The teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Seahawks tacked on an insurance run in the fifth on a single by Joseph Mennella. Central came back in the sixth inning to get a run after Louis Jordan had a pinch-hit double before moving to third. He scored on a single by Gianno Merlonghi to make it 6-5.
- A pair of one-out walks put runners on for Wagner in the seventh. Bryce Phelps doubled in a run before passed ball allowed another to score, making it 8-5.
- In the top of the ninth, CCSU got a lead-off single before a double-play cleared the bases. Jackson Haker followed with a solo homerun to make it 8-6. Central would follow with a hit batter and a walk to put runners on first and second before Wagner got a strikeout to end the game.
