Winegar Scores Five Friday At Quinnipiac

The Central Connecticut State lacrosse team dropped its Friday afternoon non-conference game, 17-8 at Quinnipiac. 

Makayla Winegar scored five times for the Blue Devils, converting twice on 8-meter shots to pace the offense. Katie Hurlburt finished with three points and a team-best five draw controls 

KEY MOMENTS 

• After an early Bobcats tally, the Blue Devils struck for a pair of scores within a 2:03 stretch. Katie Hurlburt netted a free position goal to tie the score at the 10:44 mark, and then Grace McGann put home a pass for Abbey Cannon for a 2-1 lead. 

• The Bobcats scored the final two goals of the first period and the first tally of the second quarter to build a 4-2 advantage. Makayla Winegar found the back of the net just over a minute later to make the score 4-3 Bobcats. Quinnipiac scored seven goals over the final 9:43 to take an 11-3 lead into intermission. 

• Quinnipiac posted a 5-0 third quarter to take a 16-3 lead 

• The Blue Devils scored five times in the final period, with Winegar netting four goals in the period. Hurlburt scored the other goal for CCSU, as well as assisting on a Winegar score.

• Winegar scored her five goals on six shots and also added two ground balls and two caused turnoveres 

• Hurlburt had two goals and an assist 

• Winegear, Bella Magliozzo, Jennifer Socci and Adrien Wise all had draw controls 

• Cate Bendowski scored four goals and had an assist to lead the Bobcats 

• Maeve Tobler made a dozen saves for CCSU in goal
