Lacrosse Concludes Homestand With Loss To Mercyhurst

The Central Connecticut State lacrosse team concluded a four-game homestand, falling 16-7 to NEC visitor Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon at Arute Field. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in league play, while the Lakers improve to 1-6 on the season and 1-1 in NEC action. 

KEY MOMENTS 

• The Blue Devils opened the scoring with two early goals as Abbey Cannon and Amaya Monacelli gave CCSU a 2-0 lead in the first 48 seconds of the contest 

• Camryn Trybuskiewicz scored a man-up goal 3:02 later to put Mercyhurst on the board and start a run of six consecutive Laker goals, that put the visitors on top 6-2 midway through the second quarter 

• Kaitlin Flynn found the back of the net for the first time with 7:00 to play in the first-half and scored again, after an Emma Cimino goal, with 3:32 to play to make the score 7-4 in the Lakers favor 

• The Lakers scored three goals in a 2:05 stretch in the opening minutes of the third quarter to build a 10-4 advantage 

• Audrey Canata netted a man-down goal with 9:22 to play to stop the run and neither team would score for the ensuing eight minutes of game play 

• Whitley Easton scored with 82 seconds left in the third quarter for the Lakers, starting a four-goal run that pushed their advantage to 15-5 with 6:47 to play 

• Canata scored her second of the game with 76 seconds to play and Bella Magliozzo scored on an 8-meter goal with 40 ticks left in the contest, before the Lakers finished the scoring with a goal with five seconds remaining in the game 

NOTES & NUMBERS 

• Flynn and Canata both scored twice for the Blue Devils 

• The Blue Devils had a 12-9 edge in draw controls in the contest, with four apiece from Grace McGann and Magliozzo 

• Makayla Winegar had three of the Blue Devils nine caused turnovers 

• Both teams recorded 14 ground balls in the contest, with Maeve Tobler leading the way with four 

• Tobler made seven saves in net for CCSU 

• Easton scored eight points for the Lakers, with six goals
