Career Nights Lead Lacrosse To Road Win At Delaware State

The Central Connecticut State lacrosse team earned a 15-4 NEC victory on the road Saturday evening over Delaware State. The Blue Devils outscored the host Hornets 8-1 in the second half. 

The Blue Devils had three players record hat tricks in the game led by a career-high six tallies from Grace McGann. 

KEY MOMENTS 

• Audrey Canata scored the first two goals of the game, both unassisted, to give CCSU a 2-0 advantage just shy of 10:00 into the game. 

• Delaware State scored at the 2:56 mark, but the Blue Devils answered with two goals in 25 seconds from Amaya Monacelli and McGann to take a 4-1 lead after the first 

• Moncalli scored her second of the game 4:17 into the second and made the advantage 5-1. The teams traded goals over the rest of the half, and the Blue Devils took a 7-3 lead into intermission. 

• The offense got off to a quick start in the second half, as Makayla Winegar tallied her second of the game 54 ticks into the period. It was the first of three goals in the first 3:11 of the period as the Blue Devils built a 10-3 advantage 

• Anna Kimbal broke the Blue Devils run with a man-up goal at the 6:38 mark of the third quarter. McGann answered with a goal with 2:54 to play, for an 11-4 lead entering the final period. 

• McGann continued her scoring run, with two tallies to open the fourth period, and Winegar made it a 4-0 run with an 8-meter tally th 5:13 to play to reach a 14-4 advantage  

NOTES & NUMBERS 

• Canata netted her first collegiate hat trick, with a career-high four tallies Saturday and now has eight goals in the past three games 

• McGann tallied her second hat trick of her rookie campaign, and had two draw controls 

• Winegar finished with three goals, for her second hat trick – third of her career – on the year, to go along with a pair of draw controls 

• Krista Mazariegos and Mea Lally led the Blue Devils with three ground balls in the contest, as both teams recorded 11  

• Maeve Tobler recorded six saves in goal and earned her first collegiate win in net 

• CCSU finished with 10 draw controls as a team
