Softball Drops a Pair of Games on Friday

The Central Connecticut softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday. The Blue Devils fell to the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay by a score of 5-2, and then 1-0 against Central Michigan. The losses drop the Blue Devils record to 5-7-1 on the season.

Game 1

The Blue Devils got on the board in the top of the first with a single run. Senior Amanda Dilworth walked and then with two outs she stole second and third. Sophomore Kelsey Barlow delivered with an rbi single to left center to score the run. Senior Erica Koehler followed with another single, but the Blue Devils were unable to score another run.

Green Bay answered in the bottom half of the inning with three runs off of Blue Devil sophomore Jordan Tingley. All three of the runs were unearned. Green Bay posted another run in the second chasing Tingley from the game.

Freshman Julie Marks relieved Tingley, allowing one run over four innings of relief.

Central cut into Green Bay's lead with a run in the seventh that was sparked by a leadoff single by junior Sarah Vlahos.

Tingley falls to 2-2 on the season with the loss in the circle, as the Blue Devils feel to Green Bay 5-2.

Game 2

The Blue Devils and Central Michigan squared off in a pitcher's duel in the second game of the day. Blue Devil starter Elizabeth Montemurro pitched six innings in the loss. She scattered nine hits over the six innings but a four hit first inning lead to a run for Central Michigan.

Central Michigan made the first inning run stand up. Pitcher Kara Dornbos struck out eight Blue Devils and allowed only one base runner over her seven innings of work.

The Blue Devils lone hit came off the bat of freshman Tessa Brown who doubled to center to lead off the seventh inning, but the Blue Devils couldn't produce a rally.

Montemurro falls to 1-3 on the season with the loss.

The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow with a pair of games at the Under Armour Showcase hosted by USF.
