The Central Connecticut softball team fell to #16 Nebraska by a score of 8-3. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 6-9-1 on the season. The Blue Devils scored two runs in the top of the first but were unable to hold off a powerful Nebraska team who scored five runs over the first three innings.
The Blue Devils got on the board in the first inning with a pair of runs. Freshman Arielle Bruno started the game with a single and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Junior Rebecca Mussatti walked and then freshman Tessa Brown followed with a double down the right field line. The knock scored Bruno and chased Mussatti to third. Sophomore Kelsey Barlow drove in Mussatti with an rbi ground out to third base.
Nebraska scored three runs off of Blue Devil starter Elizabeth Montemurro in the first two innings taking a 3-2 lead. The Blue Devils answered with a run in the top of the third to tie the game. Barlow notched her second rbi of the day with a single to center that scored Mussatti.
Freshman Julie Marks relieved Montemurro, she allowed two runs in the third inning and then surrendered three in the fifth to take the loss. Only three of the five runs Marks allowed were earned. Sophomore Jordan Tingley pitched the final inning for the Blue Devils keeping the Huskers off of the scoreboard.
Brown had two of Central's five hits, Barlow, Bruno and freshman Courtney Collins each had a hit in the game. Barlow had two rbis in the game. She now has 16 on the season.
The Blue Devils return to action on Thursday when they host Yale for a doubleheader.
