Central Softball Trio Earns NFCA Honors

Central Connecticut softball's Ashley Black, Lauren Alibozek and Kat Malcolm have been named NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes by the National Fastpitch Association for the 2011-12 academic year.

The award is bestowed upon exceptional college and high school athletes who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or higher during the 2011-12 academic year. Alibozek, Black and Malcolm join players from Bryant, LIU Brooklyn, Quinnipiac, Robert Morris and Wagner in representing the Northeast Conference on the list.

"I'm very excited that Kat, Ashley and Lauren received this honor from the NFCA." Head Coach Jeff Franquet said. "It is a testament to their hard work in the classroom and their ability to balance academics and athletics as student-athletes. The education of our student-athletes is the top priority of our program and as a team we believe the commitment to success in the classroom is tied directly to success on the softball field."

The Blue Devils turned in a record-breaking 31-19 (11-9 NEC) season in 2012, boasting the most wins in CCSU softball program history. The squad kicks off its 2013 season on March 1 against Georgia State at the University of South Florida Tournament.
