Central Connecticut softball sophomore Kat Malcolm earned NEC Co-Player of the Week for the second time this season after another undefeated week for the Blue Devils, the league announced Monday.
Malcolm was an integral part of the Blue Devils' 4-0 weekend. She scored six runs and drove in eight RBI in 14 at bats. Malcolm registered six hits in 14 at bats on the week including three home runs.
She smacked a three-run homer against Sacred Heart on Saturday and followed it up with an additional three-run homer in game one of the Saint Francis doubleheader on Sunday.
She kicked off game two against SFPA with a double and followed it up with a solo home run. Malcolm batted .429 on the week and yielded a perfect fielding percentage.
Malcolm has hit seven home runs so far this season, just three away from the CCSU single-season record of 10 achieved by senior Kelsey Barlow in 2010 and classmate Nicole Springer in 2012. She is also 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts on the season and is ranked 40th in the nation in runs per game.
Malcolm shares her honor this week with junior Aubrey Mable of Bryant.
The Blue Devils (20-9, 10-0 NEC) will continue conference play this Saturday, April 13, at Mount St. Mary's (10-22, 2-8 NEC). The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
