Malcolm Capital One Academic All-District
Central Connecticut softball's Kat Malcolm was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team on Friday. The sophomore earns the honor after boasting impressive performances both in the classroom and on the softball field. With the honor, Malcolm becomes eligible for inclusion on the Academic All-America ballot, which will come to a vote later this month.
Recpients of the Capital One Academic All-District award must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.
"Being named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team is such great honor," Head Coach Jeff Franquet said. "Our team is committed to excellence both on and off the field and Kat works hard in both respects. I am so proud of her for the achievements she has accomplished so far in her short career."
Malcolm is among only 11 players in the district to receive the honor and is accompanied on the list by some of the top players in the nation. She is also one of only two players on the list to represent the Northeast Conference. She is joined by LIU Brooklyn's Lauren Morizi on the first team.
Malcolm is having an impressive season with the Blue Devils. She has broken the CCSU single-season record for hits and runs scored, tallying 66 hits and scoring 46 runs. She also stands just one home run away from tying the single season record and ranks in the top 10 in CCSU career history in home runs with 11.
The criminology major boasts a .429 batting average, a .675 slugging percentage and is 11-12 in stolen base attempts this season.
She has helped lead the Blue Devils to their first ever top-two NEC finish. Central has secured at least a share of the regular season title and will appear in the NEC Tournament for the second time in CCSU history next weekend, May 9-11. The location of the tournament has yet to be determined.
