Ausanio Leads Central to 3rd Place Finish

The Central Connecticut women's golf team battled through harsh wind conditions on the second and final day of the LIU Brooklyn Lonnie Barton Invitational to capture a third place finish.  After the first round, Central sat in fourth place on the tournament's leaderboard behind St. Francis (P.A.).  Host LIU Brooklyn (647) claimed the tournament's first place spot followed by second place Sacred Heart (659).  Central placed third (672) while Mount St. Mary's (681) and Robert Morris (682) rounded out the top five.

Competition was held at The Club at Savannah Harbor located in Savannah, GA, a course which plays host to the Champions Tour stop.  The two-day tournament played out with strong wind conditions on March 5th and 6th.

Junior Anna Ausanio paced the Blue Devils shooting a 78 in the final round, a nine stroke improvement from her first round score of 87.  She totaled a score of 165 after two rounds, good for an eighth place tie in the individual field.  This is her second top-ten finish of the spring season, her third of the year.  Ausanio's second round score marks the fourth time this season she has broken 80.

On day two, freshman Albrianna Farnum matched her season low score shooting an impressive 81.  Farnum totaled a 163 for the tournament and finished sixth in the individual competition, her first top-ten finish of the season.  Farnum's 82 in the first round led all Blue Devils.

Junior Stephanie Bednar finished the tournament with a score of 167.  Her tournament score, which was the third best score for a Blue Devil, stamped her T10th place position on the individual leaderboard.  Bednar tallied an 84 on the final day and an 83 in round one.

Sophomore Gina Grant broke 90 on the tournament's final day shooting an 89 after a 95 in the first round.  Junior Katie Reid placed tied for 32nd individually shooting an 88 on day one and a 90 on day two (178).

The Blue Devils will resume competition in two weeks at the C&F Bank Invitational hosted by the College of William & Mary.  Tournament play will take place on March 18th, 19th, and 20th.
