Softball Drops Season-Opener at Longwood, Second Game Canceled
Central Connecticut (0-1) started its softball season with a 14-3 five-inning loss at Longwood (6-4). Sophomore's Erin Kelley and Katherine Knowles both went 2-for-2 in the loss. Knowles had an RBI double. The team's second game at the Longwood Spring Classic, scheduled for 4 p.m. versus UMBC, was canceled due to poor weather conditions.

Knowles's first-inning RBI double provided CCSU with its first run. Sophomore Erica Koehler drew a bases loaded walk to score junior Jaclyn Logan later in the inning. Central Connecticut posted its final run in the fifth inning. After freshman Joanna Berry walked, freshman Kelli Griffiths moved her to third with a pinch-hit double. Berry scored on a 6-3 force out by freshman Abby Harpp.
Senior Rachel Brenneman pitched the first four innings for the Blue Devils. Harpp entered in relief during the fifth.
Central Connecticut will play Iona at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
